Native Americans in the 21st Century

http://www.ted.com/talks/aaron_huey.htmlA good 20min video about Native Americans in the 21st century. It is specifically about one reserve in the Dakotas - but most of the lessons apply to just about all other Native groups and reservations in Canada, the US and beyond.See More

Wikileaks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D22E1PlwiU8Today the most recent documents released show that the president of the IAEA is "firmly onside" with the US on all major appointments and polices. This brings into question the decisions the IAEA make regarding countries like Iran, who have been accusing the IAEA of pro-American bias. The biggest news however is INTERPOL's warrant for the arrest of the founder of Wikileaks, apparently for rape.…See More

World Travel: Africa

This past summer I was lucky enough to travel around through East and Central Africa for 4 months, and it was a very interesting and eye-opening experience. I spent the first part of my trip doing touristy-ish things, volunteering at an orphanage/school, going on safari, climbing mountains . ..ect. The second part of the trip was far more interesting in the sense ofgetting a feel for the places I was in, getting away from the crowds, meetinglocals and having time to reflect on everything I was…See More

Racism in the 21st Century

I think people my age tend to think of racism as a problem or issue that has already been largely resolved. I can’t disagree more. This week a South African white supremacists was murdered on his farm, shinning the light once again on SouthAfrica’s not so distant and ugly racist past. Eugene Terreblanche’s supportersvowed to avenge his murder while many Black South African’s celebrated hisdeath. Racism is alive and well in the 21st century indeed. But we needn’t travel all the way to South…See More

Aljazeera's Empire

http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/empire/2010/10/20101025152732205454.html

Aljazeera's series, Empire, is one for the only places in mainstream media where you can get any serious discussion about the US as a global imperial power, without the hyper-ideological banter of political pundits. This is an excellent video (about 50mins) about the build up of military hardware all…
