Homo sapiens

Human beings are the most intelligent, social, moral and destructive creatures in the world, and maybe in the whole universe for all we know. Some people follow religion, some don’t, but both seem to agree on the fact that we are the most advanced kind of animals out there, and the most powerful other than God, for those who believe. All the holy books seems to suggest that as well, that God made us special, God gave us the knowledge to choose what’s wrong and what’s right, with us being…

World Travel: Africa

This past summer I was lucky enough to travel around through East and Central Africa for 4 months, and it was a very interesting and eye-opening experience. I spent the first part of my trip doing touristy-ish things,

volunteering at an orphanage/school, going on safari, climbing mountains . .

.ect. The second part of the trip was far more interesting in the sense of

getting a feel for the places I was in, getting away from the crowds, meeting

locals and…

Racism in the 21st Century

I think people my age tend to think of racism as a problem or issue that has already been largely resolved. I can’t disagree more. This week a South African white supremacists was murdered on his farm, shinning the light once again on South

Africa’s not so distant and ugly racist past. Eugene Terreblanche’s supporters

vowed to avenge his murder while many Black South African’s celebrated his

death. Racism is alive and well in the 21st century…

Response to "War on Reason"

I've posted this link in response to the great blog "War on Reason". The blog brings up some great points. I've posted the trailer clip for the movie "The Union: The Business Behind Getting High" to provide an idea of what the movie is about. I strongly urge anyone who is interested in this topic to watch it, but it really opens your eyes to the underlying issues surround the "War on Drugs".

War On Reason

Being from conservative backgrounds, we both subscribed to the rhetoric that we were bombarded with in middle school. I can still see my grade seven health teacher, Madame Martine, preaching about the evils of marijuana. We knew confidently that marijuana use would lead to harder drugs and a bleak future. After years of being tricked and blatantly lied to, through extensive research we came to the conclusion that marijuana has no real negative health consequences. The real question for us was… Continue

The Go Green Fad

http://http://www.monbiot.com/archives/2004/11/23/feeding-cars-not-people/

Last week’s presentation by Kristina brought about a very interesting conversation regarding the ethical implications that are embedded in the production and use of biofuels. The discussion brought some aspects of this "green initiative" to my attention, and I became very interested in the subject. I was raised in…

Mr. Deity

Now here is a theology I could get behind! These videos, which are available on youtube, but also as a free subscription on iTunes (full seasons only available here), document God as he prepares for and works through the creation of the world. Michael Shermer, author of The Science of Good and Evil, says that the videos are "funny without being offensive, insightful without trying to be too deep", but still enough to spark conversation. Basically they are another look at…

Brett Skauge & Taylor Ackerman BLOG- American Officialz: The Truth. Lyrics & some preamble.

While certainly not as well informed, professional, or thorough as many of the other blogs, I find that music has a different way of effecting people. Music is perhaps most effective as a fire-starter in that it is great for turning heads and ears and reaching a broad audience because somehow we identify with a beat. While protest songs and…
