The episode that prompted our initiative to reclaim the CBC from those who have stolen it from the Canadian public occurred in Calgary on March 17, 2009. When the former US president entered Canada to speak to an Oil Patch audience, CBC journalists collaborated with police and with their fellow propagandists in the commercial media to cover up the citizens’ movement seeking the arrest of George W. Bush for war crimes. After Crown officials refused to uphold the rule of law, Mohawk activist Splitting The Sky attempted to make a citizen’s arrest, an act for which he was apprehended, jailed and charged with obstruction of justice. In this venue, Our Own CBC (Citizens’ Broadcasting Cooperative), we intend to cover the forthcoming trial of Splitting The Sky and to present perspectives on our changing world that are frequently censored by media propagandists promoting aggressive war. In the process we intend to return the CBC to the proud tradition of public broadcasting that its current leadership have betrayed. We will not stand idly by as the Crown corporation is increasingly marketized in preparation for its privatization.
